And Yet Another Political Post
Really guys, I'm still interested in fandom. In fact, I have four chapters of a new Scott/Logan fanfic series written (three of them beta'ed) and the rest mapped out in my head. But I'm a little obsessed with this election, since I do believe there is strong evidence that electing McCain would have profound negative effects on this country for a long time, comparable to the terrible effects of the Reagan and Bush presidencies. And, although Obama was not my first choice I think he's a really good one, and I've been extremely impressed with the integrity of his campaign in the face of McCain's Blizzard of Lies.

So, for those of you Democratically and literarily inclined (and U.S. citizens or permanent residents), I present:

Books for Barack. Ayelet Waldman is collecting signed copies of books from their authors. If you donate $250 or more to the Obama campaign through her link, she sends you 10 of the books, randomly chosen. Look at the list of authors who are participating!

I just did it. If anybody else does, let's compare what books we get.

Very interesting. I sent this along to some folks I thought might want to know about this.
Happy birthday to you.

Your birthday?

I've just been thinking how I discover so many friends and acquaintances having birthdays, and some people actually have it together to track them and then point them out. Happy birthday! I sent the source on to those on my email list who have some disposable income and the right politics....

I just realized that I may never have betaed the third part of what you sent me? The movement from Des Moines back home, and then the visit of Sally, and the crash of my computer, made me forget any commitments, completed or not. I am now back on a (somewhat) regular schedule and my laptop is set up so that I have a computer-type life again. I'm sorry if I dropped the ball -- and would like to make it up to you!

Thanks for the birthday wishes.

I can resend parts 3 and 4, if you are able to beta now.

How are you doing? I've been thinking about you - haven't heard from or of you lately.

Ookay, do resend.

My last post till yesterday (reccing the Hill article which I see you've also recc'd, and another f-lister had done so before me!) were the ones reporting on the protests in Saint Paul concerning the Republican convention. I was staying at Sonja's with S up from DM doing legal volunteer work for NLG staying with me. I got home to my own computer after four days (labor day weekend) and it went down and stayed that way. My laptop is of limited utility, so I don't use it as often. Also, I'm trying to get a fic together for hdhols, and it was challenging me creativity all by itself...

Just this week, i feel I'm back into something like routine, though it will be MUCH better when I have another computer. Which will not be soon, for financial reasons. But when I do get one, it will have a fabulous video card and 4 gig ram MINIMUM because I'm tired of things running slow.
