Another Character Meme
From hockeyiris

Name a character from one of my fandoms, and I'll give you either

(a) three facts about them from my personal canon/fanon
(b) a reason he/she is lousy [Original said "sucks" but since I think oral sex is a good thing and lice are a bad thing, I amended],
(c) a reason he/she is awesome,
(d) three things that never happened to that character or
(e) three people that character never fell in love with and why.

Pick the character, and give me... two letters to choose from. I'll give you one, or both.

I think it looks like fun. I can certainly do X-Men, HP or Star Wars. I know a little bit about a bunch of other fandoms and am willing to try for anything you give me if I know the source.

Cyclops - Question A

(Link)
A. Three Facts About Cyclops from my Personal Canon/Fanon

1. Scott Summers had a period as a runaway teenager when he worked in sex trade in NYC. He found it not at all an erotic experience; his primary and lasting view of hustling consists of equal parts fear and degradation. On the other hand, he also feels like it's the only reason he survived as a blind fifteen-year-old with no adult protection. As an adult now, he has a pretty nuanced view of the whole thing, and thinks that he learned some useful skills (sexual and otherwise) and it likely helps him identify with and emotionally support the runaway and throwaway kids he teaches.

2. He had a terrible crush on Warren Worthington from the moment Warren showed up at Xavier's. Scott was deeply closeted at the time and alternated between terror that Warren would realize Scott's feelings and hope that he'd return them. Scott started dating Jean in part in the hope that doing so would help him get over his feelings for Warren in particular and for guys, in general. Warren started acting kind of hostile and jealous when they started dating and that gave Scott hope. When Jean told him that Warren had cornered her and asked "What does he have that I don't?" he was devastated, but hid it well.

3. There was only one time that Cyclops considered leaving the X-Men. It was when he found out that Charles Xavier had cooperated with Magneto to have members of his Brotherhood released from jail, and then lied about it to Scott afterward. He felt at the time like he could never trust Charles again and wasn't sure he could work for him anymore. But, ultimately, he decided that too many people were dependent on him - the team, the students - and his sense of duty was too strong. Eventually he managed to forgive Charles but after Xavier's death, when Cyclops found there was more that Charles had deceived him about, he wondered if he'd made the right decision.

Cyclops -Question C

(Link)
Three People Cyclops Never Fell in Love With and Why:

1. Simon Graves. Simon was an advertising executive with a wife and home in New Jersey and a pied-a-terre in NYC and secret gay life when he picked up 15-year-old Scott on the street. Simon kept Scott for over a month, letting him stay in the NYC apartment even when he was home with his wife. Scott hoped that Simon would save him from the streets and worked hard to get Simon to fall in love with him but couldn't afford to develop feelings of his own.

2. Jean-Paul "Northstar" Beaubier. Jean-Paul was seconded from Alpha Flight to the X-Men early in the formation of both teams, for a mission to retrieve uranium stolen by Magneto and his Brotherhood. Scott and Jean-Paul worked together on joint missions a few times and liked each other. But when Jean-Paul came out Scott distanced himself from him. By that time Scott was involved with Jean and deep in the closet. The idea of an openly gay mutant combatant, even on a different team, was very threatening.

3. Billy Halverson. Billy was a 21-year-old independent trucker and psionic that came to Xavier's at Logan's suggestion. Scott arranged for him to spend summer term at Xavier's - although he was beyond the age of the students there - and eventually helped Billy resume his college education, interrupted when Billy's father died and he had to take over the trucking business. Billy's attractive, gay and completely in love with Scott, but Scott just can't view him as anything but his student.

Question A - Three Facts About Hank "Beast" McCoy from My Personal Canon/Fanon

(Link)
Neither of you said which question(s) you wanted answered, so I will choose.
1. People always laugh at Hank's weird, sesquipedalian way of talking. They don't always realize he means to be funny.
2. Anjuli was the first person he felt was laughing with him and not at him. That was when he first realized he was in love with her.
3. On the day of his death they had just got confirmation that she was pregnant. He died a happy man.

Thank you. Have you read Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men? One thing he does perfectly is get everyone's voice right.

Agent Brand (a bitchy fed temporarily giving the X-Men orders): Can we trust Frost?

Hank: Agent Brand, Emma Frost is an X-Man.

Brand: And?

Hank: I wasn't aware of the need for a conjunction.

Brand: You always talk like that?

Question C: A Reason Hank is Awesome

He thinks it's just as important to continually practice his combat skills as it is to exercise his prodigious brain.

Question D: Three Things About Nightcrawler from My Personal Canon/Fanon

(Link)
He only appears in my X2 fiction and only tangentially, but here are three things:

1. Scott has reservations about taking him on as a teacher and an X-Men, but he turns out to fit in very well. He teaches Comparative Religion and Circus Arts and is a very popular teacher, in spite of his strange appearance and manner, or perhaps because of them. And he finds it easy to switch from circus acts to combat missions, since the same physical skills and the same need to follow orders are involved.

2. After meeting both Mystique and Hank, Kurt becomes obsessed with the prevalence of blue mutants and wonders what it means that there are so many of them.

3. He and Jean-Paul swap circus stories when they are on joint missions.

He and Jean-Paul swapping circus stories would be priceless. I don't remember you having done that.

Any plans for Kurt to enter your X1 storyline? It could be your own take on the elf.

I never did do them swapping circus stories but I do think it could be fun.

I'm just about neck deep in plot with this current series. I'm not sure if or where Kurt would fit in, but you're right - with him not in X1 at all, it allows for a whole lot of room for what to do with him. I felt that way about Hank as well.

Your original character -- I'm blanking on the exact name now, but it's in many of your Xman Fic -- the precog -- Francisco?. Oh, I also wouldn't mind Scott Summer's college roommate dude? (i'm so bad with names right now -- but yeah, I like your OCs)

and I'd like B and especially E. Thank you!

Northstar

(Link)
Three People Northstar Never Fell in Love With, and Why:

My Northstar's first serious relationship is with Kolya Ivankov, a Belarusian skier. They fall in love when they compete in the Winter Olympics. Kolya plans to immigrate to Canada so they can be together, but he doesn't know that J-P is a mutant and has strong anti-mutant feelings. When Jean-Paul finds out, he doesn't come out as a mutant, but cheats on Kolya in a very blatant way so that Kolya will leave him.

Jean-Paul is so thrown by the end of that relationship that he can't even consider getting involved with anyone for over five years. He meets a lot of men; he has some one-night stands, but that's it. There are a number of men interested in him (more than 3) but he isn't ready to fall in love until he meets Adam.

One Reason He's Lousy:

He can't completely forgive Adam and move on. Adam had a one-night stand at a time when things were bad between them. He's sorry; he tries to make amends. Jean-Paul says he forgives him and really means it, at the time. But - with no justification - he decides that Adam is secretly seeing Jake and goes to meet Jake behind Adam's back in order to find out the truth. Ultimately J-P's inability to get over what was truly a pretty minor indiscretion leads to them breaking up. If he'd put their relationship over his jealousy, it never would have happened.

Combining the Two

(Link)
Three Things That Never Happened to Mystique, from my personal canon/fanon"

- She never got a chance to think of herself as normal. She was born with the blue skin and scaly appearance but her powers didn't manifest until adolescence, so she had all the disadvantages of being a mutant but none of the gifts. In X2 she says to Kirk that she doesn't pass as normal all the time because she shouldn't have to, but she might also have said she doesn't because she couldn't for 13 years.

- She never knew another obvious mutant when she was a child. She not only perceived herself to be a freak, but she felt like the only freak in the world.

- She never met Charles Xavier when she was an impressionable mutant adolescent. If she had, she might be an X-Man, but by the time she knew there was a way to look at the non-mutant population other than with hostility and disdain, it was too late.

Re: Combining the Two

Movieverse Mystique is fascinating. Alone of the Brotherhood, she does not seem to be a stooge or a psychopath. She genuinely believes in Erik's goals and trusts him without ever becoming toadying.

Sir Ian always assumed they were lovers and you have them as such in your tattoo story. To me, she reads as more of a fag hag, esp. in the jet scene where they're teasing Rogue about her hair.

I can see that. She's certainly very taken with him (e.g. the scene where she, as Senator Kelly, lights up at the mention of his name) but that can be all kinds of "taken." A couple of times there seem to be clear suggestions that they were lovers - one scene (I can't remember the context or even which movie atm) where he says of her "You have no idea!" and it seems sexual in context. The other is when she acts like (and is referred to as) a spurned lover when he ditches her after she loses her powers.

Of course they could be lovers and Magneto still be gay - she could be a man for him. I tend not to see him as gay (although I'm happy to read stories where he is) just because I don't like to fall into the "everybody's gay" fallacy that haunts slash sometimes. I feel like I have enough gay characters among the canon ones already. When I've needed more gay characters, I've gone with OCs and likely places for my canon characters to meet them (e.g. a gay bar).
