I Have a Weird Job - Chapter XIV
This came across my desk today: http://www2a.cdc.gov/eCards/index.asp

Centers for Disease Control ecards - an idea whose time has come?

Anyone in your life you'd like to send a cheery message about colorectal cancer to in order to mark that special birthday?

How about some tips on how to prevent brain injury? I must admit there are some folks whose meta-posts tempt me to send one of these with a "Sorry this is too late" message. I wouldn't do it, though. That would be wrong, as Tricky Dick said.

And then there's always the hard-to-find-at-Hallmark "Enjoy Your New Fish" card?

I can't wait for someone I know to have an event requiring one of these :-).

::boggles:: I...I...I...I...

::boggles more::

WTF? First of all, what's up with the "1 in 278 children have cerebral palsy" one? Am I supposed to send that to pregnant women to cheer them up or something?

And second...what's up with the fish one?

I'm sorry, my brain is broken now.

The fish one gives a link so you can find out what zoonotic diseases you might contract from your new pet. I do think sending it would be in better taste than sending the CP one (which gives you tips on what signs might indicate your child has CP), but that's not saying much.

I think there should be one for the bacterium in the icon (yersinia pestis - causes bubonic plague and causus belli of the War on Mutants)

Heh! Okay, that made me laugh out loud, considering some of the things I've been seeing lately.

I just sent my partner the one on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders. I'm trying even now to think of who might be an appropriate recipient of the colorectal cancer one. This is AWESOME.

(Did you notice that they're called Health-e-Cards? I was nearly sick with joy when I saw that.)

Oh you made me laugh so hard! You could send me the colorectal cancer one. My doctor has been after me to have a colonoscopy since I turned 50. I feel I'm not *really* 52 since I still menstruate on schedule, so I'm postponing until I'm at least in perimenopause.

I've been trying to get my mother (age 61, thin, lifelong asthmatic, losing height) to get a bone density scan for a decade. Finally, this year, I told her that it would establish a baseline reading for when she's older, and now she's finally got an appointment. I would totally send her one of these awesome cards.
