HIV, in fanfic and in real life|
I want to believe that these guys truly are gay, or bi- or heteroflexible :-) and that Marvel and Fox just forgot to tell us that.
Heh. That that makes a lot of sense; it is even more interesting when I consider your notes on your X2 series which I always thought represent a major difference from the X1 universe premise.
By the way, I think it is worth noting that STDs have been a part of human society for a long time, even fatal ones: AIDS is simply the latest and worst example, but throughout history STDs have had a major impact on our culture. At least in Europe it has, since the advent of penicillin is relatively recent (thus, monogamy as a hygienic measure... interesting to think about... )

In what way do you think X2 is a different premise from X1 (not sure whether you're referring to the movies or my fiction there)? I did use X2 as an opportunity to write a different take on my core characters...
I totally agree that fatal STDs are part of the human condition. We were living in Camelot for a few short years where there were not fatal STDs. I don't think it's coming back...
Argh. I was referring to your series, but I cannot find the preliminary notes I was thinking of, which means that I associated some other notes to X2 when really they aren't related at all! Premature senility. Hmph.
Just had another -possibly fatal- hard disk crash last week, so all my bookmarks are gone, making me sound even more disconnected than usual! In case you were wondering if I had disappeared into thin air when I still owe you several replies...

LOL! Well, I did try to do something different with the X2 characters. I wrote a less repressed Scott and a more connected-with-others Logan. I think the latter reflects the change in the character in the two movies, but the former was just authorial choice. Cyclops is so little in either movie that there's a lot of room to interpret him in a variety of ways. I also showed a different pattern in their relationship - in my X2 fiction they become friends before they have sex. Of course, none of that has anything to do with HIV.
P.S. Sorry about the hard disk...
