Like lots of other people, I'm both fascinated and surprised by Sarah Palin's sudden announcement of her resignation. I'm reading a variety of opinions on why she did it and what she'll do now. And I cringe as a number of people - e.g. Andrew Sullivan here - refer to her as taking "the Dan White option" or "pulling a Dan White" or "going the way of Dan White."
They say this meaning they are predicting that she will change her mind and rescind her resignation. Surely Dan White is much less known for having attempted (unsuccessfully) to rescind his resignation as city supervisor in San Francisco and more for having shot and killed two people. Palin has a bad temper and guns but I certainly hope she does not attempt to take the Dan White option.
