I guess the good news is that I've been getting some interviews lately. The bad news is that they're not resulting in jobs. I've often had the impression that I'm not chosen because of age discrimination, but I had the experience for the first time this week of someone actually saying she was not going to offer me the job because she'd decided to look for someone younger. It was a temporary IT support job and I'd interviewed for it on Friday. The interviewer had asked for references and I'd given her rpics's info since I'm doing consulting work for her. She accidentally left the rejection message on rpics's voice mail, in spite of the fact that I'd clearly marked whose phone number it was on the email I'd sent her and the outgoing message said who it was. So to add insult to injury I and rpics had the embarrassment of her playing it for me. And, as I said on facebook, yes I know it's illegal to discriminate based on age, but there's really no point filing a complaint. Illegal discrimination happens all the time; the only remarkable part is that she said so this time.
I'm very happy the unemployment extension was passed. My next looming deadline is November, when my health insurance runs out. I'm also struggling with how to pay for Doran's last year of college.
My friend Cecelia was diagnosed with breast cancer recently and started chemo last week. She was worried about being by herself (she lives alone) after the treatment, not knowing what the symptoms would be like. I volunteered to hang out with her for a few days and went there from Friday until Monday. It was pretty much a non-event, as her only symptom was fatigue. So she slept a lot and I read a lot (3.5 books in 3 days) and when she was awake I read to her, or we played Scrabble or generally hung out.
Zara is off to the Twin Cities next week, to go on vacation with stirsmn and family. I wish I were going, too!
I've been writing a bit for money, but would like to get back to writing fanfic sometime soon.
I have four chapters of what's likely to be a 10-12 chapter series written and want to pick it up again but somehow don't seem to be doing so. I've rewatched X-Men and reread some of the fiction that leads up to this series in the hope that that will help.
