Returning Spring - Final Story|
OMG, OMG, OMG!
You are not leaving it there, are you?
*still dead from the angst*
Though I am very relieved poor Jean is now free of the Phoenix entity. Poor all of them... 'The course of true love never did run smooth' I can accept, but torturing the more romantic of your readers is just sadism... There needs to be a continuation (I should have smelt a rat when Scott and Logan started exchanging I-love-yous. Talk about jinxing themselves!)

And here I thought it was the characters I'm torturing! I quote from one of my betas (about the story I'm working on now):
"Oh what you're doing to poor Scott! Well, you only hurt the ones you love."
I do plan to write a third and final series in my version of the Phoenix saga. But I have two other projects I need to do first. I'm in the middle of a story series that follows A Time to Every Purpose, and I have a ficathon thing due July 1 (but that's a one-shot and should be quick).
Well, you only hurt the ones you love.
Yes, yes, I've heard the theory, but I think your beta was being too nice! Sadism I tell you! :)

Oh that is a relief! At first, I was just relieved that it really was not Jean (in spite of the way her character has been abused in the recent past, I still like her) but then I felt so worried that you may stop there.
Good luck on all the writing projects: I'll be right here, reading!

I like Jean, too. It took me a long time to warm up to her, but once I did I really developed a fondness for her. I even found her a fella :-) so she wouldn't be so lonely. Well, in my X1 stuff. Not sure what happens to her yet in the X2 series.
Well, Jean as she has been portrayed in the past 15 years or so is not very likeable, but she used to be an ideal girl one upon a time: strong, loyal, smart and pretty, but able to recognize the intrinsic worth of a geek like Scott vs. a flashy boy like Warren in spite of the peer pressure... I admit I feel like she has been trampled on quite thoroughly ever since Chris Claremont took over. Obviously not his intent, but the guy cannot write a sympathetic woman character to save his life. This in itself would not a problem, if he did not insist on focusing on femal protagonists constantly; I think he was traumatized early on by someone telling him he was good at it... And all subsequent X-writers seem to have taken a page from his book regarding her character. Well, that's just my take on it, of course, I am not sure if anyone else -les biaised- would see it that way! :D
Certainly I do like the fact that in your X1 series you do not bash her needlessly but show her viewpoint with sensitivity: there is no need IMHO to abuse canon female SOs in order to clear the way for a slash pairing. There are better ways to deal with the issue in a civilized fashion which only require a modicum of imagination.
