What Does It Mean to Say that Slash is (or isn't) Subversive?|

My sense of what's subversive about slash is the subversion of canon or authorial control. The second, and important to me, is the reclaiming of creativity from mass-produced corporate ownership.

But do you see that kind of subversion as specific to slash, or true of fanfic in general? After all, an author's reach should exceed canon's grasp or what's a fanfic for?
