I think kids doing more of the chores is a great idea if they are also give the chance to feel some ownership over the community they are helping to build and maintain. Calling the chores "capers" is hypocritical and rather hilarious. It calls for the kids to do some vandalism and call it "creative expression." Or a better analogy might be it calls for people to play mean tricks on each other and call it "bonding".
I'm glad she's having a good time! Sleeping in tents = life is good.

All sorts of stuff at Girl Scout camp has special names. I wouldn't read anything into "capers" particularly. I agree it's good for kids to do chores, and not just because it reduces the cost to parents!
I just think things should be called what they are, not softened with euphemisms. For one thing, it reduces the value of the word "capers". Which is a wonderful word and I will have to find from for it Chapter 14 which is full of them.
