Seven Quirks for Seven Friends

I was tagged by kestrelsparhawk

Here are the rules:
1. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
2. Tag seven people to do the same.
3. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag whoever wants to do it.

Okay, seven quirky facts about me:

1. I have an irrational fear of injury to my eyes and it manifests in a horror of having anything in or near my eyes and of being around people putting anything in their eyes. I'm not afraid of going blind and in fact think I'd adapt to that pretty well, but I can't stand the idea of anything in eyes. I have to steel myself for days for the air puff glaucoma test. I'm also one of the few people who would see better with contacts than glasses (extremely myopic, not at all astigmatic) but I couldn't put them in without general anesthesia and I've concluded that's not really practical.

2. The first movie I ever saw was One Hundred and One Dalmatians. It was re-released when Doran, my eldest, was two and so it was the first movie he ever saw, too! I told this to everyone I knew at the time, seeing it as a Fun Fact to Know and Tell. I was very surprised that a number of people upon hearing it had been my first movie and Doran's looked at me in consternation and said, "Dale! You're over 30 years old. You've never been to the movies before?"

3. By the time I turned 40 I had only been overseas three times, traveling to India (once) and Israel (twice). I used to say that I only went to countries that started with an I and that I was deciding whether to go to Ireland or Italy next. As it turned out I got a job that required that I spend time in Ireland, but also in England, Singapore, and Japan, so that ruined my I streak. And I've been to France since then, too.

4. I've only owned a car for a total of three years of my life.

5. I worked as a volunteer on the first National AIDS Hot Line in the mid-1980s. I basically spent my Monday evenings telling men how to have sex with one another. The training turned out to be very useful in writing slash many years later.

6. I've been in the vaults where the world's largest accumulation of gold resides, numerous times, and played with gold bars. They feel like nothing else. There's nothing we encounter in our everyday lives that's that dense. A gold bar is quite small (maybe 9" x 3" x 2"? I haven't done this in years, but something like that) and it weighs 28 pounds. It's also really soft, which surprised me the first time almost as much as the weight. The people who work in the vaults wear special protective shoes so their toes won't shatter if they drop a bar on a foot. I've played with the shoes, too.

7. I flew for the first time when I was two weeks old. A little unusual now, but very unusual in 1955, when I was born.

I'll tag 7 people on my f-list and if you've already done it or hate memes, my apologies. I tag mamajoan, nocategory, libgirl, judyrose1390, cherrypin_up, ringthebells, and lilacsigil.
