A Brief Summary of Jewish Holidays|

This is fascinating and thank you for sharing.
Can I ask what I know is a stupid question? (I should probably just go look it up on my own.)
I know a bit here and there of most religions and mostly because I was friends with someone of that tradition and they shared it with me.
I heard the story of one of the Jewish holidays and while I'm not sure I ever heard the name of it, the story stuck with me and I think it's one of the most inspiring things I've ever heard.
It's a story about how the Jews had been attacked by someone and they managed to drive them off (or escape?) and it was a holy time that required the lighting of a lamp. The lamp had to be lit for many days (or stay lit) but there wasn't enough oil. The people prayed and did their best and lit the lamp and by a miracle, despite that their wasn't enough oil, the lamp stayed lit.
I'm all teary-eyed writing this, but it's a very moving and inspiring story to me and I'm a yibbit for not knowing where it comes from.

It's a story associated with Hanukah, often referred to as "the miracle of the oil." It does not show up in the books of the Maccabees and there's no evidence that it has any historical basis (the holiday does commemorate an historical event, in broad brush). There's more information on the miracle of the oil and Hanukah in general, here

Thank you! Even if it's not historically accurate, it's a lovely folktale ;). I suspected that it was Hanukah, but I didn't want to say anything and be even more ignorant. ;)
(glad to see you on lj again! :D. I mailed you a letter. You might stop speaking to me when you get it! ~eep~)

I got your letter and was very excited to read it! There is something special about a handwritten letter. Of course, between keying and Palm graffiti my ability to hand write is just about gone... But I will respond, eventually.

I'm glad you got it! I tend to ramble at the best of times and with a long day behind me and only half over, I can get a bit too contemplative. Sorry about that. ;)
I look forward to whatever you have to say whenever you have the time to say it.
I <3 handwritten letters, sadly my handwriting has always been mediocre at best :/.
