I think you're onto something with some people looking at PVI as the norm and seeing what could most resemble it for other couples for whom it's not an option. I wonder if I had put specifically f/f with a strap on dildo if that would have gotten higher points than the more general "with an object." Interesting thought on how organizing it by comparison to PVI makes the same act "count" for a same sex pair that doesn't for a mixed sex pair.
One fallout of the taxonomy you espouse is bad slash :-). When writers look on m/m anal sex as "the act" because of its similarity in their minds to PVI, they tend to write it so it sounds more like PVI and less like what it is. I'd prefer that - in slash and in the world - we acknowledge sex acts for what they are and not view everything through PVI-tinted glasses.
